What are Mung Beans ?

Mung bean (nokdu) is a type of lentil that is green on the outside and yellow in the inside. It is used to make both savory and sweet dishes, including bindaetteok, mung bean porridge (nokdu juk), mung bean jelly (cheongpo muk), and rice cakes.

Mung beans can be bought in most in-person grocery stores, or at online platforms like Amazon.

How to Clean/Store

Store mung beans in a sealed container, or in a cool, dry place.

Nutrition/Health Info

Mung beans are loaded with vitamins and minerals. 1 cup of cooked beans contains approximately 14g of protein, 15g of fiber, Vitamin B, Iron, and other essential minerals.

It also contains antioxidants that can help neutralize free radicals, which can reduce their chances of causing health issues like chronic inflammation, and improve heart health.

Studies have shown consuming mung beans can lower your LDL cholesterol, and reduce blood pressure. There have also been studies displaying mung bean consumption can aid in digestive health and lower blood sugar.
