Romanization: Gat, Gaat, Ghat

Scientific Classification: Brassica juncea

Also Known As: Indian mustard, Chinese mustard, vegetable mustard, brown mustard

Flavor Profile/Texture:

fibrous herbaceous mustardy

Substitutes:

Swiss chard, kale, celery

kimchi

What is Gaat (Mustard Greens) ?

Gat, or brown mustard greens are used as a herb in winter kimchi or as an ingredient for gat kimchi. Gat is a vegetable with a strong aroma that makes it closer to an herb.

Mustard greens or Brown Mustard can be bought from the Korean grocery store

How to Use/Cook

Gaat or Brown Mustard Greens are mostly used in making Kimchi. It's either an added ingredient like green onions or you can make Gaat Kimchi 갓김치 using Gaat as the main kimchi ingredient.

How To Grow

You can grow Gat or Jeokgat 적갓 easily from seeds. You can buy seeds from my store -

Nutrition/Health Info

Brown mustard helps improve pneumonia, rheumatoid arthritis, and neuralgia. It also contains many antioxidants which can protect your skin barrier, and prevent diabetes risk factors.
