What is Dried Red Pepper ?

Fresh and dried Korean Red Chili Peppers
Dried and Fresh Hong Gochu (Red Chili Peppers)

Red pepper is a more popular term used, but red chili pepper is a more precise term. After harvest, most of the red peppers are dried and ground to make powder, but some are used in dishes as a whole - intact with stems, seeds and all. Dried red pepper and charred wood charcoal are used when making soy sauce. Interestingly, red dried pepper and black wood charcoal would be twisted in straw and hung on the front gate to announce the birth of a son.

Nutrition/Health Info

Dried red peppers are rich in vitamin C, and helps prevent colds.
