SWEET  DESSERT PANCAKES

(HOTTEOK)

The hotteok pancake has been around since the 1920’s in Korea.  This sweet variation with sugar filling gained the most popularity in Korea and have stuck around for almost 100 years. Hotteok is a must street food for cold winters

THE INGREDIENTS

Flour | Salt | Water Sweet Rice Flour Instant Dry Yeast Sugar | Oil | Cinnamon Chopped Walnuts

THE INSTRUCTIONS

Add sugar and dry yeast to warm water. Measure and mix all dry ingredients. When yeast is bubbly, combine the two mixtures.

Let dough sit for 3 hours in room temperature.  Mix together sugar, cinnamon, and finely chopped walnuts.

Heat oil over medium heat. Oil your hands and spread a golf ball sized glob of dough out between them.  Add some sugar mixture into the middle, and then close up the hotteok. 

Drop the pancake into the pan and flatten with an oiled spatula.  Fry for 3-4 minutes, until golden brown and melted inside.  Serve with green tea or milk. Enjoy!
