Happy New Year everyone!!
Rice Cake Soup (Dduk Guk or Tteok Guk) is what Koreans cook and eat for New Year day. I have already posted a couple versions of this wonderful warming soup in the past so I won’t repeat it again but I thought I would make a video of it so that you can visually get an idea of how it is done. The video for the rice cake soup recipe that I made for the video is made with anchovy stock and then topped with ground beef and egg. It may seem like it’s a bit of extra work but hey, there are only 2 New Year’s day in a year, right?? HAHAHA.. TWO??
YES..One regular New Year and then a Lunar New Year for many Asians throughout the world! 😜
Anyway, here’s my latest Rice Cake Soup (Dduk Guk or Tteok Guk) video!!
BTW, if you don’t want to spend the extra effort to make the egg garnish, you are welcome to just beat the egg and swirl it in your rice cake soup couple minutes before you are ready to serve.
Besides this wonderful rice cake soup, if you need some ideas for traditional Korean New Year’s party menu, I have a post that you might find helpful.
Also, remember that for New Year’s (especially Lunar New Year), Koreans traditionally like to serve Sujeonggwa and Sikyhe as desserts or as drinks for guests. I have recipes for both, so try making those too!
Lastly, instead of the anchovy stock, if you want to make a richer beef stock based dduk guk, use this Rice Cake Soup with Beef and Dumplings recipe.
Thank you so much for all your support in 2017 and I want to wish you and your family all the very best for 2018!!
May God Bless you always,
